Drakaina at the Faces Awards – Video

On April first we went to the Faces Awards Show for which I was nominated (first time being an Awards nominee in Canada ;) ) and had a blast..:)

I didn’t win that night, but if you’ve read my previous post about the awards, you know I had already won… Just by being nominated in a country that isn’t my own..;)

Anyways, the show was a blast, my entourage owned the place (as it they were everywhere.. I love those guys!!) and I got to meet a long time Favorite of mine: Craig from Craigness, with whom I’ll be working again soon. Craigness was there interviewing nominees for their internet tv show and to literally crash the party lol

Today they released the show and I wanted to share it with you. Enjoy :) !

Craig Layton rocks up in a limo care of Limo Jim. Craig is a little perturbed that his iconic status in the city has not been recognized. He crashes the Faces Awards party to discover who has taken the gongs that should have been his. Guests include local actress – Amy Kerr, local designers – Joanne David, Lisa Drader Murphy. City Models male model – Ahmed, Rainmen player – Eric Crookshank. Faces co owner – Josh Turk and arguably the worlds number one fantasy art supermodel – Drakaina. We would also like to thank all those who helped make this episode during this fantastic evening and a big thank you the Josh and Kyle for allowing us into their awards night to film.”

BloodTini – Teaser Video

No too long ago, I was telling about the vampire movie I had the pleasure to take part in, as the Empress of the Vampires.

Today I am Happy to share this teaser video with you. Hope you will like it ;)

“Interview with Drakaina” by fan to pro

Here is a new interview by Fan to Pro’s Steven Savage. Enjoy! :)

Interview with Drakaina – the Fantasy Art Muse
When I profiled Hal-Con, they mentioned one of their attendees is Drakaina. Drakaina would be considered a model for some, but she considers herself a muse – an inspiration to artists and photographers. She’s also taken her interest in fantasy and comics as a guide to some of her work – perhaps the first person I’ve met to combine geek culture and glamorous modeling. So of course I had to interview her!

1) First of all, let’s find out what you do. You’re a muse. You model. How would you describe your work?

Above anything else, I have fun!!! Basically what I do is inspire artists in different fields, who use me/my likeness as reference for their artworks. I didn’t label myself a Muse, artists started to refer to me as one about a 2 years after I become a Fantasy art Model (in 2001), as it would be very pretentious to wake up one day and declare “I’m a Muse”.

I like to tell stories with my pictures, pictures that will touch people’s soul in some ways. I don’t know how to draw, so I guess you could say I act my ideas out through photography :) I only work with a few selected photographers who enjoy the creative input I like to bring with me on set.

I recently had the pleasure to play the part of the Empress [of the Vampires] in the upcoming movie BloodTini (Directed by John Rosborough and produced by: DiHL Digital & Rattle Snake Films), a Vampire flick that should, from the reactions I gathered during the teaser screened at the Wrap party, please the majority of viewers…

It’s sexy, gory, scary and funny.

It was a very nice opportunity for me as I met some very cool people, passionate about what they do and not afraid to think outside the box.

I should be able to show you the teaser video very soon, so keep an eye on this post for an upcoming update.

Convention Spotilight: Hal-Con

The Roundup of Convention ideas is here.

Hal-Con is a convention in Halifax Nova Scotia.  It’s got a diverse set of guests and events, and when I talked to the staff, I found the diversity applied to their profan events.
Hal-Con’s approach is to be open about new panels of all kinds, and seek a balance of fun and practical.  When I say open-minded, I’m quite serious – Hal-Con looks for and encourages diversity, and you’ll find everything from your typical events to serious discussion of lightsaber handling.  They like to see what the fans and guests will suggests and have the courage to try.

This diversity also affects their profan panels in a delightful way.  Among their upcoming offerings:

  • Multiple writing panels, playing to the author’s strengths.
  • A panel with model Drakaina (warning, some NSFW content) whose fannish interests led to her modeling for fantasy and SF works.
  • Multiple filmmaking groups discussing their efforts, and even a filmed “nerd debate.”

Hal-Con’s open-mindedness looks to be their strength in producing pro-fan events.  This is certainly the first convention I’ve talked to with a discussion of modeling, and I somehow get the impression Hal-Con will find a way to top this in the years to come.

Over in Novia Scotia?  A fan?  Sounds like you owe yourself a trip to Hal-Con!

Here it is, the scan from the magazine article on yours truly, featuring the photo shoot by my dear friend, Halifax photographer Nick Rudnicki.

It’s in French, so unless you speak the language of Moliere, it might be a little hard to understand hehehe. It’s about me and poker.. The magazine is “Card player”, European edition.

I am also adding 2 more pics that didn’t make the cut in the mag…Enjoy…
