Drakaina at the Faces Awards – Video

On April first we went to the Faces Awards Show for which I was nominated (first time being an Awards nominee in Canada ;) ) and had a blast..:)

I didn’t win that night, but if you’ve read my previous post about the awards, you know I had already won… Just by being nominated in a country that isn’t my own..;)

Anyways, the show was a blast, my entourage owned the place (as it they were everywhere.. I love those guys!!) and I got to meet a long time Favorite of mine: Craig from Craigness, with whom I’ll be working again soon. Craigness was there interviewing nominees for their internet tv show and to literally crash the party lol

Today they released the show and I wanted to share it with you. Enjoy :) !

Craig Layton rocks up in a limo care of Limo Jim. Craig is a little perturbed that his iconic status in the city has not been recognized. He crashes the Faces Awards party to discover who has taken the gongs that should have been his. Guests include local actress – Amy Kerr, local designers – Joanne David, Lisa Drader Murphy. City Models male model – Ahmed, Rainmen player – Eric Crookshank. Faces co owner – Josh Turk and arguably the worlds number one fantasy art supermodel – Drakaina. We would also like to thank all those who helped make this episode during this fantastic evening and a big thank you the Josh and Kyle for allowing us into their awards night to film.”

Drakaina Nominee for the Faces magazine Awards

On March 15 I had the honor to find out that I was one of the top 3 Nominees for Faces Magazine “Fave Babe” Award, along side Halifax very own sweetheart and beautiful new mom Amy Kerr and last year’s award winner, blond babelicious Gillian Demone.

The winner will be announced live at the Faces Awards Show presented by Molson Canadian at the Toothy Moose Thursday April 1st (no joke ;) ) at 10PM (if you’re in the area, check out the event page here for all the details, as well as the list of the nominees in all 54 categories.

I’m super excited to be one of the nominees as, being the “outlander” so to speak, I’m really proud to have the support of both the industry and the fans and friends I’ve made here in Halifax. Coming from France 4 years ago, I knew it would be tough starting over in a new country, yet I would have never imagined it would be so tough to gain the trust and respect of the Haligonian (people that live in Hali) community. And when you are not a Haligonian born and bred yourself, doors don’t exactly open easy… This is why this nomination means so much to me, as, even if I don’t win the award, I’ve won something even better : Canadians have open their arms to me, both in my personal and professional life, considering me one of their own, and that my friends is worth all the awards in the world!! :)

The party is Thursday night, it’s should be quite glamorous as it is a red carpet event, so the (self proclaimed..I love you guys) Entourage and I will be taking lots of pictures that I’ll be posting here shortly after the party…

Wish me luck and who knows, on top of fun pics to share with you, I might even bring home an Award ;)

The vanilla cake

On May 22th, 2009, Drakaina hosted a launch/signing party for her first art book released in North America, “Drakaina, Fantasy art Muse”. Known internationally as the first Fantasy art Model from France, Drakaina has been a full time Muse and Model for artists all over the world since 2001, inspiring painters, comic artists, writers and poets, as well as a new generation of European models.

The book, authored by Drakaina, with artworks by over 50 fantasy, pinup and comic artists, is published by SQP and is the Muse’s second foray into the publishing world. She did it at the prompting of fans and to thank all the artists that saw her as a source of inspiration. Read More…

Launch party D-9 days..

You know what, I’ve come to realise that planning this launch party is a little (read much) like planning a wedding… Almost like a rehearsal for the big date (which is by the way unikely to happen in a near future as Ariock isn’t pro wedding hahaha)  ;)

First find a place where to hold the party… Something big enough that people won’t feel crowded yet not too big so that it won’t look all empty either… After looking around I decided on the Aperture Studios, first because I had a very good vibe from the place last time I had a shot there and also because the event being the release of an art book from a model it was very fitting. Artbook launch party

invitationfinalfbTo celebrate the release of my second artbook “Drakaina, a Fantasy art Muse” by SQP, we are hosting a launch/release party on May22 nd 2009 downtown Halifax.
This will be the art book’s debut in Canada, so I am pretty excited about it.
Since the artists won’t be able to attend (because I live so far away on this little Canada island that is Nova Scotia ;) ) I will be exposing prints of their works in the art gallery where we are having the party.
There will also be a draw for a gift basket at the end of the night, and the lucky winner will receive both artbooks signed, as well as surprise gifts from my sponsors. Read More…
